Features You Can Get On Android 9.0 Pie Development

The latest version of Android is here- Android 9.0 Pie. This version has come up with some cool new tricks, which will give you a new way to Android than it used to be. Hence, there is no doubt that a huge possibility lies with the Android development in Sydney on 9.0 Pie version.

Here are some of the features in Android Pie one must know before opting for mobile app development based on this platform:

#New Gesture Navigation

Previously, Android had the standard three-button navigation bar located at the bottom of the device screen. But, with the grand arrival of Pie 9.0, the three- button standard bar(for Back, Home, and Recent)fell back in favour of a new gesture navigation system.

The upcoming devices will soon come up with this new gesture enabled. However, sometimes, you may still see the older version appearing on your Android device after updating. In such case, making a few changes in the settings(of the dedicated device)may change the navigation bar right away.

#Adaptive Battery and Brightness

Adaptive Battery is the Doze feature extension introduced in the version Android 6 Marshmallow. The Doze functions to put the least used apps into “deep sleep” to prevent those applications from consuming the battery life.

Now, Adaptive Battery goes further by checking the most used apps and services, then adjusting those apps that are least used by you so as to use less battery life.

This feature of Adaptive Battery is usually a default setup, which can be easily toggled by changing the Settings. Also, the apps which are least used may have delayed notification due to this default setup.

Android’s Brightness feature functions automatically in 9.0 Pie. Now your Android device will track the brightness level that you prefer to use in certain apps and environment and automatically adjust the brightness. You can do that by opening the Quick Settings panel and accordingly manage the screen brightness as necessary.

#App Actions

Google’s launcher determines the applications you mostly use based on the day-time. Now, App Actions enables you to quickly start the tasks by assuming what you are about to do.
For instance, while you go out to work in the morning and you swipe the home-screen, a shortcut to Google Map navigation might start. While at work, you might see an App Action to chat so that you can talk to your colleague on Hangouts. And when you plug in the headphones, an App Action to the most played playlist may open up on the screen.

These actions are quite similar to the app shortcut which is later inspired by  3-D touch on iPhone. The smarter the prediction is, the more you will like to use them often.

#Slices

Similar to App Actions, Slices allow you to skip directly to certain actions in apps. Such as Google says that if you search for an app, such Lyft(cab app), you will get a shortcut to a short route to your work along with perfect price and accurate ETA.

#Improved Security Features

Many of Android Pie’s security upgrades mostly remain hidden and often not so interesting. But, there are two such security aspects that you must know:
  • The first is that this version of Android prevents the access to camera, microphone and all other sensor-based actions from apps that are idle- according to Google. This indicates that even if you have permitted an app to make access to your phone camera, microphone, etc. the app can’t unless you are actively using it.
  • Secondly, a new lockdown mode protects your Android phone in emergency situations. Once the mode is enabled, you can tap on the Lockdown on the Power menu, which will instantly lock your phone.

Also, this Lockdown mode will disable the fingerprint unlocking and Smart-Lock, hide messages and notifications on the lock screen. It means that your phone will strictly lock the functionalities of the buttons and sensors of screen unlocking. As a result, you will have to use the Phone PIN and pattern or password to unlock the device.

This can help you in the situations when you feel that an authority or thief might insist you to try and unlock your phone via biometric methods. So, this Lockdown mode is usually meant for safeguarding your Android device during emergencies.
